Calendly made scheduling invisible. Its brand does the opposite.

Calendly's new system is most convincing when the uneven C anchors its softer patterns, colours and product icons. The challenge is hierarchy: a growing suite needs enough variation to distinguish each tool without making the parent identity another competing symbol. The construction drawing, rejected mark options and Notetaker presentation each support a different part of that argument.

CLOSE READING

One anchor, several competing languages.

A large C occupies the centre of a collage with stripes, soft colour, a portrait, a wordmark and small icons around its edges.

The central scale establishes a hierarchy across diverse materials. Without that centre, the surrounding devices could each pull the identity in a different direction.

WHERE THIS EVIDENCE STOPS

A case-study montage is a selection of applications, not a frequency-weighted sample of what customers see.

THE NEXT USEFUL TEST

Collect ordinary deployed surfaces and record which identifying cues appear together and how often.

THE CASE BEHIND THE SCORE / EDITORIAL PREVIEW

A judgement. Open to examination.

Challenge the reading ↗

These are the observations and reservations behind our Calendly review. The score is an editorial judgement of the visible work; human recall and model reconstruction have not been validated by this score.

01 / WHAT SUPPORTS THE READING

THE RIPPLE C

Simple enough to draw, asymmetric enough to own. It expresses space, time and connection without turning into a literal calendar tile.

CONNECTED WORDMARK

Near-connections between letters carry the system idea into the name and make the custom drawing visible at headline scale.

PRODUCT FAMILY

Five pictograms share a construction grammar, allowing new capabilities to feel related before a user reads the label.

02 / WHAT COMPLICATES IT

ICON PROLIFERATION

The architecture only stays memorable if the primary ripple clearly outranks the growing family of feature symbols.

BLUE CATEGORY GRAVITY

The broadened blue range is calm and credible, but without the mark or connected shapes it can return to B2B SaaS default.

GLOOP DISCIPLINE

Flexible bubble forms are useful connective tissue; overuse would weaken the precision implied by time and workflow.

Editorial reservations, not submitted counterevidence. You can challenge these interpretations with work we have not seen.

THE STUDIO’S INTENT

SMITH & DICTION / SOURCE ↗

The organising idea is making space. Smith & Diction uses an asymmetrical ripple, connected lettering, a shared icon grammar, time block patterns and a calmer blue world to give Calendly one system for a growing meeting platform.

TBMC TASTE COUNCIL REVIEW

ORIGINAL PUBLISHED COMMENTARY [R.V.]

The brief is a familiar scaling problem: broaden the product story without losing the equity that made the company famous. Smith & Diction’s answer is ‘making space’, a generous idea that works strategically and visually. The new C is one asymmetrical ripple, intentionally a little wobbly, giving a rational scheduling product a recognisable human edge.

The wordmark carries the same connected logic. Letters almost touch, then hand the eye forward. Around it, Scheduling, Notetaker, Contacts, Callie and Payments receive their own pictograms, all built from shared forms and held inside the same squircle. That gives a growing suite an architecture rather than a bag of feature icons.

Colour, type and motion are where the brand stops feeling like a simple logo refresh. A wider blue range replaces the expected neon SaaS palette; TT Neoris, Wulkan and Geist separate expression from utility; time block patterns and soft ‘gloop’ forms make connection visible across pages and product moments. The result is calm without being passive. The watch out is density: as more subproducts arrive, the primary ripple must remain the unmistakable first memory, not merely one friendly symbol among many.

FROM THE REVIEWGROUNDED IN BR-047

Q: Is the C still Calendly without the wordmark?

Yes. The single off-centre ripple is the most durable primitive in the system. Blue helps recognition, but the wobble and open interior are what make it ownable.
